The Symon's cone crusher was developed by Nordberg Manufacturing Company, Milwaukee, USA in 1927. Vickers Ruwolt held the manufacturing licence for Australia and manufactured many Symons crushers for the mining and quarrying industries.

The crushers came in 5 different sizes 3', 4', 4-1/4', 5-1/2' and 7' either Standard or Shorthead. The former generally for secondary crushing and the latter for tertiary crushing.
