Governor's Prize reg no. NU 34512. Are the Governor's Medal rare at all as I have come across a medal dated 1896 awarded to F. Sutton who was my grandfather.

Unfortunately we haven't been able to find how many of these were awarded or over what period. We could suggest perhaps that you contact the Governor’s Office http://www.governor.vic.gov.au/welcome.htm in case there are records there of these awards. They may have had an agricultural emphasis based on the design.

I also have one, awarded in 1897 to my Great Grandmother apparently as a prize at the Hopetoun (Vic.) Agricultural Show.
