Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee medal, 1897.
Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee in 1897 was celebrated the great enthusiasm throughout the British Empire. It prompted many Australian local governments and politicians to issue commemorative medals. This medal was issued by Robert Harper, MLA, Bourke East Ward. Harper was a successful business entrepreneur and politician. Bourke East Ward, which no longer exists, extended northward in a narrow corridor from Melbourne to Big Hill (parallel to Mount Macedon).
