- White metal medal issued to commemorate the visit of Prince Alfred to Australia in 1867.
Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, Queen Victoria's second son, was Australia's first royal visitor. Arriving in 1867, he stayed for six months. This medal was the first of four versions issued. It features HMS Galatea, a ship driven by both steam and sail. During his visit to Sydney there was an attempted assassination of the Duke, who received a bullet wound to the back. - Description:
- White metel medal, 47mm diameter, inscribed on both sides. The obverse shows a profile bust of the Duke of Edinburgh, facing left, with edge detail. The reverse features H.M.S. Galatea under sail and steam, facing right.
