Another version of this same photo (without blemish) appears on the Boroondara Library Service (url below). Claims shop was Burwood Road, Hawthorn.
Details read:

<<A. Fischer Upholsterer & Mattress Maker.
Donated by Mrs Zelma Matheson (nee Fisher), 1982.
Staff outside shop of A. Fischer, Upholsterer & Mattress Maker.
Inscription on verso reads: Fischers factory Hawthorn 1860. Walter Fischer (baby).
Mrs Zelma Matheson, in a letter accompanying photograph, states:" My father who was born in 1875 was the baby in the picture, with his father who owned the business in Hawthorn...The boy in the butchers apron was from the shop next door. I don't know what the date on the back signifies."
The location of the shop in the photograph remains a mystery. A. Fischer was listed in the Sands &? McDougall Directory at 42 Little Collins St, between 1875 and 1876. Fischer was not listed in Burwood Road, Hawthorn until 1885. However, based on the age of the child, Walter, an approximate date of 1876 is probable.>>
