Negative - Graham Family Farm House, Wandin, Victoria, circa 1915 Image Reg. No: MM 8051

Summary:
Black and white negative of the Graham family house at their farm in Queens Road in Wandin, circa 1915.

In the doorway of the house are, at right, Mrs Mary Jane Graham, nee Russell the donor's grandmother, and at left, Miss Minnie Graham, the donor's aunt.

This farm was a small orchard property that was taken on by the family after the donor's grandmother, Mrs Mary Jane Graham, retired from her railway job. She was responsible for managing railway gates in Gippsland about 1892, shortly after her husband was killed working on the railways. She was widowed with four children. She later worked at the Oakleigh railway gates then Elgar Road Box Hill railway crossing gates from about 1910 to around 1915. It is thought that she left the railways around 1915 and then moved to the orchard property during World War I. The family stayed on the farm until around the early 1920s. Then Mrs Graham moved to Hartwell to be near her son and grandchildren.
