Research conducted at the Stonnington History Centre using Sands & McDougall directories confirms the date estimate c.1870 but identifies the proprietors as ELLITSON & FORD, house decorators, not E.T. Litson. This entry appears only in the 1870 and 1871 directories. The location of the shop was on High Street, adjacent to the ne corner of Chapel Street and High Street. The corner block was vacant (as shown in this image) until c.1872 when Edward Rule built a grocery there, having moved his business across the intersection from the nw corner.
