Other Details: Roland Bert Jinks was born on 1 Nov 1911 in Wednesbury, England. He was the foster son of Florence Elizabeth Chadwick, of Fairfield, Victoria, Australia. On 4 Nov 1939 he went to Sale and enlisted in the Australian Army. His service number was VX5704. Private Jinks died on 23 Dec 1941 at the AIF 1 Australian General Hospital. He was buried at the El Alamein War Cemetery in Egypt. His medals were donated to Museum Victoria in 1980. They comprise a War Service Star, Africa Star, Australian Service medal, Defence medal and War Service medal (NU 18701-18705). The medal was designed by Percy Metcalf, an accomplished coin designer. The crowned image of George VI is very similar to Metcalf's image of the king used on a variety of British medals. - Description:
