Summary:: Black and white image of W. Mountjoy's horse drawn coach, with people sitting on roof of coach and inside coach. It was taken at Erskine River, Lorne, Victoria in the 1890s.

Part of a collection of glass plate negatives, stereoscopic negatives, panoramas, postcards, photographs and cameras belonging to the William S Anderson Collection.

William Anderson was born in Lincolnshire, England in 1867. In November 1889 Anderson travelled on the steam ship 'Port Caroline' from London to Melbourne, arriving in 1890.

In 1892 he set up a photography and art studio in Punt Road, South Yarra and in 1896 purchased nurseries in Ormond and Montrose. Soon after this he set up his own mobile caravan and toured Victoria as an itinerant photographer. During this time he discovered the coastal township of Lorne and the Otway Ranges.

In December 1898 he purchased 'Norman and Brown's' photographic business and began a strong association with Lorne that was to last for 50 years. From 1898 until his death in 1948 Anderson photographed the changing surrounding landscapes and visitors of guest houses in the area. His practice also included panoramic photography, stereoscopic photography, portraiture and experiments with trick photography.
