Summary:
Coin issued by the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra in 2000 to commemorate Phar Lap winning the 1930 Melbourne Cup. It is sealed in a capsule in a green case in a printed cardboard box with a colour image of Phar Lap on the top and is supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity No. 18672 which includes a brief history of Phar Lap's history.
Description:
A proof nickle-bronze five dollar coin featuring on the obverse a rowned head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right; around, ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2000. Below neck the artist's initials IRB (Ian Rank-Broadley); and on the reverse Phar Lap racing to right with jockey within a horse-shoe shaped band; incuse on band above, PHAR LAP 1930; below, FIVE DOLLARS. The coin is sealed in a clear, hard plastic capsule which is fitted into a green case with the Australian Arms and the words ROYAL AUSTRALIAN MINT printed in gold inside top. The green case was supplied in a printed cardboard box with a colour image of Phar Lap on the top .
