Statement Of Significance:
Thomas Ludie & Co. were ironmongers who imported the paddle steamer Earl of Elgin in 1844 for inter-island trading. She arrived on 27 August and was sold to the Haitian government in 1847. This check was struck to promote the ship on her arrival.
