the large coal stage in front of equily large ararat roundhouse, boasting a 70 ft turntable, the scene of many a runaway train due to the steep grade from the station yard! the turn table was meant to be set permanantly in the open road position,to send runaways through the engine shed! this however wasnt always the case, with some errant trains ending up in atangled mess in the turntable pit!

Good photo. The turntable at Ararat was/is 85 ft. Long, not 70 ft.
