A male Red Cross medical officer assists a female patient seated wrapped in blankets in a reclining position on a folding trolley bed mounted on casters. Behind them is a Volkswagen 'kombi' van used as a patient transport vehicle with the words 'Fairfield Hospital' painted on the door.

The photograph was probably taken at the infectious diseases hospital situated in the Melbourne suburb of Fairfield. The edge of a corrugated-iron roofed verandah can be seen in the background.
