Other Details: A gold-plated medal issued by the Shire of Portland to commemorate the sesquicentenary of Victoria in 1984-5. It features a Shire shield and the sesquicentenary logo. Portland is regarded as the birthplace of Victoria. The Henty brothers, entrepreneur farmers and whalers, established the state's first permanent white settlement in Portland in 1834. It initially rivalled Melbourne, but developed slowly as a fishing port.
