Booklet - 'New Zealand', Shaw Savill Line, circa 1960s
Reg. No: HT 8107
- Summary:
- Book issued by the Shaw Savill Line, circa 1960s. It contains local information on New Zealand, a port of call on one of the routes offered by Shaw Savill. It is part of a collection of 175 items of post-war ship memorabilia collected by John McKay. John began collecting shipping brochures as a boy through an interest in travel and later used some of the material in his professional capacity as a Geography and Social Studies teacher. He finally made a voyage himself in 1957-1958, to England to attend a scouting jamboree, although he ended up staying for 18 months. He remembers lots of Australians going over at that time, and references to Earls Court as 'Kangaroo Alley'.
- Description:
- Twenty page, landscape format brochure with faded cream coloured card cover, stapled in centre. The front cover contains the title of the brochure with a decorative Moari style border and stripe and the Shaw Savill name, all in black ink. The information contained inside the document comprises information regarding New Zealand in general and then, more specifically, Wellington and Auckland. There is a single line map of Curacao and several topical black and white photographic images of local attractions.
- Acquisition Information:
- Donation from Mr John McKay, 2003
