This medal was struck to commemorate the Melbourne International Centenary Exhibition in 1980. This Exhibition marked the 100th Anniversary of the first International Exhibition held in Melbourne in 1880, for which the Royal Exhibition Building was constructed. The medal was struck by Stokes and Martin, who also produced the original medals for the 1880 Exhibition.
Description:
Obverse: profile, in relief, of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a tiara. Reverse: classical style around the edge of the medallion with text inscribed in the centre. Flanged edges. Commemorative medallion struck for the Melbourne International Centenary Exhibition 1980.
