I have one of these medals because I was one of the design engineers on the Thomson River development project, which was constructed in three stages during the period 1968-1985.

One of the images on the obverse is, as you say, an aerial view of the completed Thomson Dam and Reservoir, but the upper image is NOT a cross section of the dam and is instead a longitudinal section of the Thomson-Yarra Tunnel constructed as a major component of the scheme to convey the water from the Thomson Reservoir to Upper Yarra Reservoir.

The other names on the medal namely Fehrings, Swingler, Easton, Bells etc are the names of the various weirs and shafts that were other major components of the Thomson scheme.

While the medals awarded to the chairman and members of the Board were no doubt presented free of charge, those available to the actual workers were subject to a co-payment.

Nonetheless mine is a valued momento of my contribution to the design of this great project.
