Field Naturalists Club of Victoria

The Victorian Field Natualists Club was formed in 1880 for, as its charter decreed 'the purpose of affording  observers and lovers of Natural History regular and frequent opportunities for discussing those special subjects in which they are mutually interested; for the exhibition of specimens; and for promoting observations in the field by means of Excursions to various collecting grounds around the Metropolis.'

Since Janurary 1884 the club has published The Victorian Naturalists featuring reports by members and articles by interested scientific and amateur naturalists. The National Museum's first director Sir Frederick McCoy was the first President of the Victorian Field Naturalists Club and many members of staff have been associated with the club since that time.
