Archasterope sp.

Systematics: Ostracoda Family Cylindroleberididae

Biology:
Ostracods are difficult to identify, even for the experts. All cylindroleberidids have a stack of plate-like gills inside the carapace. All live in the sand on the sea floor. The male (left) has very long antennae and is probably luminescent. It has a larger eye than the female (right) and is an active swimmer. Males are less common than females.
