Triangle Crab

Trigonoplax longirostris

Systematics: Brachyura Family Hymenosomatidae


Distinguishing Characters:
The carapace is 17 mm long, very flat, and characteristically triangular. The legs and chelipeds are long and slender.

Habitat and Distribution:
The triangle crab lies among algae down to depths of 40 m all around Australia.

General Biology:
Nothing is known of the biology of the triangle crab but it probably uses its fine claws to pick up tiny fragments of food among the algae where it hides.
