Heteromysis waitei

Systematics: Mysidacea Family Mysidae

Distinguishing Characters:
The third swimming legs are solid and armed with spines, much stronger than the others. The end of telson is divided into two acute lobes with longer spines at the ends. There is a blunt triangular rostrum between the eyestalks. The species grows to 11 mm long.

General Biology:
The strong spiny pair of legs suggests a more aggressive predator than other species of mysids but this has not been directly observed.
