Hippomedon denticulatus

Systematics: Amphipoda Family Lysianassidae


Distinguishing Characters:
This species of lysianassid amphipod is large, 14 mm, shiny, white, with a pair of fat antennae attached to the front of the head, and with a small hook on the last side-plate of the abdomen.

General Biology:
Lysianassids are scavengers on muddy and sandy sediments in bays, the continental shelf and the deep sea where they clean up the carcasses of dead fishes and invertebrates. This species lives on subtidal sediments in eastern Australia.
