Catomerus polymerus


Systematics: Cirripedia Family Catophragmidae


Distinguishing Characters:
The opening of this barnacle is surrounded by eight main plates but numerous smaller ones surround it in an irregular pattern. It is grey to green, 20 mm high and up to 30 mm wide.

Habitat and Distribution:
The surf barnacle is found only below mid-tide where wave action is heavy. It lives only in southern states.
