Tetraclitella purpurascens


Systematics: Cirripedia Family Tetraclitidae


Distinguishing Characters:
There are four granular side plates forming a flattened conical barnacle, growing up to 8 mm high and 25 mm wide. The shell is usually pinkish grey.

Habitat and Distribution:
The species occurs only on shores relatively protected from the waves. It lives in the mid- to high intertidal, usually in shaded surfaces or crevices on southern states.
