Enquirers are advised that the History & Technology Collection is undergoing major preservation projects to rehouse its images collections. A limited image request service will be available for The Biggest Family Album of Australia images.
The museum is likely to resume full service of image orders from 1 February 2014 and apologises for any inconvenience.
Private research and/or personal use
You may download, display and reproduce material that appears in our publications and websites in an unaltered form for your own private research and/or personal use, refer to Museum Victoria’s rights statement.
All other uses
If you plan to copy, adapt, publish, re-sell, distribute or commercialise any material contained within Museum Victoria exhibitions, publications or websites, for any purpose other than private research or personal use, you must request the permission of Museum Victoria.
All image requests must be received in writing. Requests can be sent by email, by post or via our Online Form (our contact details are below).
In order to service your request, we need to know exactly which image you are interested in and how you intend to use it. Please supply us with the following information:
- Image reference number (if known)
- Title/description of the image
- Photographer’s name
- Details of where you found the image (URL, location in an exhibition, name of publication and page number)
- Exactly how you plan to use the image
The images that appear in Museum Victoria websites, publications and exhibitions are protected by Intellectual Property Law, which includes copyright and moral rights. Images from the Indigenous Collections are also protected by cultural rights. This may limit what can be reproduced.
Museum Victoria reserves the right to refuse any requests to copy collection items. Museum Victoria does not hold the rights to some collection items but will endeavour when possible, and in accordance with the Privacy Act 2001, to assist in clearing the rights to certain items.
