Question: I found this object in my house about 34 years ago. It is incredibly heavy. Can you tell me what it is?

Answer: This strange and very heavy object is the molar of an Asian Elephant, Elephas maximus. The structure of the ridges (or lophs) on the tooth differ to those found on the African Elephant which have diamond-shaped lophs. The ridges on the teeth of Asian Elephants are parallel and non-intersecting.
