A History of Aboriginal People in Victoria

This site is about the impact of the British invasion and colonisation of Australia on Aboriginal people in Victoria.

Senior secondary history students will find this site useful in preparation for assessment tasks and the analysis of written and visual material to critically respond to historical evidence in order to make sense of the past.

The Encounters web site presents research undertaken by Museum Victoria in the development of exhibitions for Bunjilaka, the Aboriginal Centre at Melbourne Museum, a campus of Museum Victoria.

The gallery sheet Etched on Bark (pdf 112kb) describes three art works on bark that give an insight into a frontier moment in northern Victoria in 1854.
