Protest

Ask most Australians, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, about Aboriginal political activity and they will probably refer to an event that happened within the past 30 years or so. The 1967 referendum, the tent embassy, Mabo and Wik are the things that spring to mind most readily. It would seem that Aboriginal activists only emerged in the late 1960s, that period most strongly associated with protest and the civil rights movement.
