Made with fibre probably from voivoi, the leaves of Hibiscus tiliaceus, held in place by a woven band at the top of the girdle. Younger women wore the briefest of liku, the length of the girdle increasing with the age of the wearer. The braid at the top of the garment was often very complex, sometimes incorporating pieces of shell or glass beads in later times.
