Baskets, fans, and cooking utensils were necessary for day-to-day life in the Fijian village.
Pandanus and coconut leaves, along with the fibre from coconut husks (sinnet), provided most of the raw material used in the manufacture of string, rope, fans and baskets. Ceramics, produced primarily for cooking and storing food, and as water containers, are highly visible aspects of Fijian domestic life.
