Learning Activities

A wide range of materials has been developed for schools and adult learners to use in conjunction with this website and/or a visit to the Forest Gallery at Melbourne Museum. While the main focus is on the Mountain Ash forests to the east of Melbourne, the roles of forests in general are also explored.

Classroom activities are available for Primary and Secondary students. Topics include: where do animals live, how people interact with forest environments, the significance of fire for plants and animals, classification of organisms and how their characteristics help them to survive.

Self-guided education programs are available in the Forest Gallery at Melbourne Museum for Prep-Year 6, Years 7-9 Science and Years 10-12 student groups.

Note: all student groups visiting Melbourne Museum must book in advance.
