Koori Children's Art

Thookay ngaweeyan - Young Voices from Victoria: Aboriginal children's art from the collections of Museum Victoria.

This colourful and vibrant exhibition of around 31 artworks by Koori children toured throughout Victoria and interstate. The paintings were created by a remarkable group of young Koori artists from Victoria ranging in age from four to eleven years. The exhibition is Thookay ngaweeyan, meaning 'young' and 'voice' respectively in the Gunditjmara language from western Victoria.

Thookay ngaweeyan draws attention to the powerful messages and stories the children chose to portray in their artwork. It represents the voices of the future - the young voices of Koori people of Victoria.

A 40 page colour catalogue, providing background information on the works and the exhibition, is available from Museum Victoria Publications.
