A child's thoughts, 1995
Inala Bell Age 9
Heywood

As far as I can remember the painting was about my interpretation of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. I depicted the Aboriginal lifestyle very simply. This is how I thought they lived - camped by Ayers Rock with animals all around them. The hands represent stories and markings of ancestors.

I'm 16 years old and currently doing year 10 at Heywood and District Secondary College. I intend to finish my VCE with excellent marks. After VCE I would like to become an Aboriginal Field Officer for the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service. I have an older brother, younger brother and younger sister. My father is of Aboriginal descent and my mother is white.

I have lived in Heywood for most of my life. This is where I have done most of my artwork as a child. Currently I do not do a lot of artwork because I have honestly not thought of becoming an artist, but I do like to do a bit every now and then. It is flattering to have my artwork recognised, especially a painting that was done while I was still at primary school.
