How do we select Community Exhibitions?
All Community exhibition proposals are assessed by the Community Reference Group, comprising representatives from different community, academic and government organisations, former community exhibitors and Museum Victoria representatives.
The Community Gallery exhibition program and selection process is currently under review. The updated exhibition selection process and application form will be put online and promoted on completion of the review.
Selected applicants will be required to attend Community Exhibitions workshops and will be given detailed Exhibition Development Guidelines. At these workshops, different elements of exhibition development will be explored with a range of presenters and museum staff. An exhibition development schedule will be formulated highlighting tasks, meetings and deadlines required to be undertaken so that your exhibition can be appropriately planned, developed, installed and launched.
Please note that there are no fees connected with the use of the Community Gallery. The Immigration Museum will assist groups to develop their exhibition within an allocated budget which is discussed in detail with each successful exhibition group. However, some costs may have to be borne by the community, if additional components are required.
Selection Criteria
- The exhibition must focus on immigration experiences and/or issues of identify and cultural diversity.
- Proposed content (ideas, themes, objects).
- The group’s level of commitment to the time required to develop an exhibition.
- Community support, involvement, endorsement and representation to be clearly demonstrated in the application
- Demonstrate that the exhibition is a collective project - a minimum of three representatives must be involved in the development of the exhibition and attend meetings with museum representatives as and when required.
- Demonstrate that you can plan, develop and deliver the exhibition as required.
- Written evidence that your proposal is relevant to the community it represents.
Applications will only be considered if they represent a community or collective; applications from individuals alone will not meet the criteria.
