Opening onto the Museum’s courtyard and garden, the Atrium is an airy glass conservatory built onto the back of Old Customs House during the building’s refurbishment in 1998. Architect designed and very contemporary in feel, the space leaves behind the busy CBD, indulging guests instead in an alfresco-feel dining or cocktail space – perfect for wedding celebrations and photography.
The Atrium also connects with Old Customs House’s original bluestone vaults, unique in that they are above ground – due to the proximity of the building to the river. Presenting an opportunity for a connecting dance or meeting space, the solid old barrel vaults – once used to securely store gold bullion – are a complete contrast to the lightness of the Atrium.
Overlooking the Museum's northern courtyard and Tribute Garden, the Atrium is set amongst the historical vaults of the Old Customs House. The Atrium lends itself to an indoor/outdoor event or special function.
