We are calling on the faces of Melbourne join us on Little Collins Street Thursday 31 March or Friday 1 April (its no joke) to be a part of the I Belong do you? photo-shoot.

You don’t have to be model material – in fact we prefer it if you’re not.  We are capturing the faces of Melbourne to promote the forthcoming exhibition Identity: Yours, Mine, Ours.

Photos will become part of a collection that represent Melbourne’s identity. Images will be placed on our group on Flickr and some will be used in the campaign promoting the exhibition.

Look out for the photographer in the bright yellow T Shirt, he thinks he belongs ... do you?

When: Thursday 31st March & Friday 1st April 2011

What time: 11am to 2pm (your photo will only take 5 minutes or so)

Where: Little Collins Street (between Swanston & Elizabeth Streets)

What to bring: Bring yourself, your friends and download and sign this release

Guess one only really belongs if one lives in Melbourne. Victoria's immigrant history and experience does not just reside in Melbourne. Why the exclusive Melbourne centric exhibition?

Hi Jacqui, thank you for your comment. It is true that a number of the personal stories represented in the Identity exhibition, as well as the CBD location of the photo shoot, may give the impression that the exhibition has a Melbourne focus.

In terms of the photo shoot, this was a one-off, awareness raising event for the exhibition and we feel it was appropriate to hold the shoot not far from Immigration Museum, in a locality that would see people of a diversity of age, gender and cultural backgrounds available.

In terms of the exhibition, the theme is about personal identity in contemporary Australia – for practical reasons our pool of content is drawn primarily from greater Melbourne and some regional Victorian stories. Indeed, some of the people featured, while living in Melbourne now, come from regional and interstate locations. The nature of the exhibition is such that everyone will be able to relate to the narratives, no  matter where they come from.

Our objective is for this to be an inclusive exhibition and we hope you find it to be so when you visit.
