Students engage in dramatic activities through physical, emotional and intellectual ownership of immigration stories. By means of research and adaptation, students improvise a creative storyline based on historical truth and develop an understanding of the conflicts and difficulties inherent in making a journey to Australia as an immigrant.
Program units have been designed for secondary students; the Leavings unit has been designed for Year 7, New World New Life for Years 8-9, Getting In for Years 11-12.
The programs encourage children to explore the creative potential of exhibits through dramatic interpretation.
The excursion program also includes an introduction by an Immigration Museum staff member. The Drama and Cultural Diversity unit resources are available online.
