Drama and Cultural Diversity - Secondary

Years 7-12, Self guided program plus intro

Students engage in dramatic activities through physical, emotional and intellectual ownership of immigration stories. By means of research and adaptation, students improvise a creative storyline based on historical truth and develop an understanding of the conflicts and difficulties inherent in making a journey to Australia as an immigrant.

Program units have been designed for secondary students; the Leavings unit has been designed for Year 7, New World New Life for Years 8-9, Getting In for Years 11-12. Each offers a framework by which students can explore the creative potential between exhibits that inspire and a dramatic interpretation.

The excursion program also includes an introduction by an Immigration Museum staff member. The Drama and Cultural Diversity unit resources are available online.
