Crosbie Morrison Memorial Lecture

On November 26, the Museums Board of Victoria and its Thomas Ramsay Science & Humanities Committee proudly presented the 1998 Crosbie Morrison Memorial Lecture.

Phillip Crosbie Morrison was a pioneer naturalist, environmentalist and a natural history broadcaster from 1938 to 1958. The lecture is named in his honour, and is the major annual lecture of Museum Victoria.

Curiosity

How important is curiosity? How can it be fostered in children, and in people in general? Pat Vickers-Rich shared her own experiences of how enriched a life can be with this one great gift.

Professor Pat Vickers-Rich holds a personal Chair in Palaeontology at Monash University in the Departments of Earth Sciences and Botany / Zoology, and also is Director of the Monash Science Centre.

Her professional interest is understanding the environmental changes that have affected Australia and that have shaped the evolutionary history of Australia's unique biota - this research has involved comparative anatomy, biochemistry, and intensive field work. Pat's work is well known nationally and internationally. Her passion is communicating to the public, the relevance and excitement of scientific investigation - through public exhibitions, public lectures, t.v. documentaries, conferences, teaching, and publication of both scientific and popular papers.
