Journey to Pompeii

This education kit provides a conceptual framework for exploring the key themes in understanding daily life in the ancient city of Pompeii.

The focus of the kit is on understanding the study of material culture in history utilising 12 signature objects from the exhibition representing the themes of trade and business, the town, public entertainment, food and dining, luxury and beauty, private residences, public and private religion and burial practices.

The kit contains classroom activities which are framed by essential questions that encourage students to adopt an enquiry learning approach. Also included are literacy activities based on authentic Roman text and themes, Web Quests in Archaeology and Vulcanology and visual support using slideshows of the signature objects and images of the archaeological site of Pompeii.

See links at right for additional resources provided for senior Ancient History and Classics students and LOTE (Italian).
