Melbourne Museum excursion packages have been designed to optimise student learning within a specific content area or theme. Each package provides a suggested program for a fun and interactive day at the museum that also meets specific curriculum outcomes for AUSVELS.
This package includes the Cold Case Detectives education program, as well as booked time in The Melbourne Story, The Mind and First Peoples exhibitions.
In Cold Case Detectives students will explore the various time periods in the Melbourne Story exhibition in the role of detectives/historians, profiling the lives - and possibly deaths - of ‘cold cases’ from various periods of Melbourne’s past. Students will explore objects that belonged to their missing person as well as knowledge of the period to construct plausible scenarios about their fate.
Students will use the exhibition to provide further evidence for their case. They can use their time in The Mind exhibition learning more about the twists and turns of the human mind to better unravel their designated character from the Cold Case session.
In the afternoon students can continue their investigative approach by identifying important stories in the First Peoples – Our Shared History section. Here students will learn how the First Peoples of Australia contributed to the development of Victoria.
