600 Million Years: Victoria Evolves

Years Kinder, F-10, VCE Biology, Self guided program

Detail of one of the objects to be found in the new 600 million years galleryHow did life on Earth come to be the way it is and what happened in our part of the world?

Find out when you take your students on a journey through time. Starting some 600 million years ago, see hundreds of real fossils such as trilobites and an ichthyosaur skull. Get up close to Australian dinosaurs, view live lungfish to find out how vertebrates moved onto land, explore animated interactive timelines, and spot scientific life sized models of prehistoric creatures – such as extinct whales.

This exhibition focuses on the work of Australian palaeontologists and palaeontology, and during their visit your students can listen to interviews with many Australian palaeontologists.

We recommend that Year 9 and 10 students studying evolution book into the 600 million years in 60 seconds program.

We recommend that Foundation to Years 4 students book into the Dinosaur Skeletons program to support their learning in this exhibition.
