In Cold Case Detectives students will explore the various time periods in the Melbourne Story exhibition in the role of detectives/historians, profiling the lives - and possibly deaths - of ‘cold cases’ from various periods of Melbourne’s past. Students will explore objects that belonged to their missing person as well as knowledge of the period to construct plausible scenarios about their fate.
Students will use the exhibition to provide further evidence for their case. They will investigate the purpose and meaning of objects, collaborate in identifying and pursuing lines of enquiry, record information, and draw tentative conclusions about aspects of the era by pooling their findings with those of other team members.
The program provides the basis for further investigations back at school using The Melbourne Story web-based resources
