Physical Access

Accessible parking spaces are available on level P2 of the carpark, with lift access to the museum entrance (the carpark clearance height is 2150mm).

Limited accessible parking is available for bus groups with people who have particular access requirements. Please enquire through the bookings office to make a reservation.

The Melbourne City Tourist Shuttle is wheelchair accessible and stops on Rathdowne Street, opposite Melbourne Museum (Stop 5). Parliament station has lift access to the top of Lonsdale Street, with Melbourne Museum a short journey up Nicholson Street past the Carlton Gardens.

A limited number of wheelchairs are available from the cloakroom on a first-come basis.

Accessible toilets are available on all levels of the museum.

All exhibition galleries and public spaces have lift and/or ramp access.

Selected computer stations in the Discovery Centre are wheelchair accessible.

Wheelchair seating is available in the IMAX Theatre on a first-come basis, or spaces can be reserved by calling the bookings line.

Assistive Listening

Hearing loops are fitted at a selected counter at the ticket desk, in the Age Theatre and at selected computer stations in the Discovery Centre.

Assistive listening devices are available for the IMAX Theatre, please ask at the ticket desk.

Auslan

Auslan-interpreted sessions of school holiday programs are offered during each holiday period. These sessions are advertised on the museum’s website.

Captioning

Most video material in the exhibition galleries is captioned.

Audio Description

Audio description for programs, tours and lectures can be arranged on request, with at least two weeks notice required. This service is offered subject to availability of describers. Please contact the Senior Programs Officer on 8341 7204.

Access for People Who are Blind/Low Vision

Service animals are welcome in the museum.

All toilets have Braille indicators.

Tactile objects are available in the Dinosaur Walk, Wild, The Human Body and The Melbourne Story exhibitions, as well as in the Children’s Gallery.

Touch trolleys are available in the exhibition galleries on most days, please ask at the ticket desk for more information.
