INTRODUCTION
The Mineralogy and Petrology Section is responsible for the geological collections
(excluding fossil material) of the State of Victoria. The collections were founded in 1854
with the establishment of the National Museum of Victoria.They now consists of the
amalgamation of the States major geological collections, encompassing those of the
National Museum, Industrial and Technological Museum, Geological Survey of Victoria and
the University of Melbourne.
