In Victoria, rocks of Silurian age occur mostly in the central part of the state, in the Melbourne district and as far North as Heathcote. Smaller areas of Silurian rocks occur in South, West and East Gippsland.

These rocks are for the most part poorly fossiliferous, but in some places diverse fossil faunas of brachiopods, trilobites, sea stars and other forms occur.
