Reconstruction of the 19th Century Garden

24 January, 2011 14:23 by Anne

Work progresses on the formation of the garden beds and planting will soon commence. You can see in this time-lapse photography, a central platform in the inner circle garden bed. This is the reconstructed footings of the mysterious German Kiosk that was discovered during the archaeological dig in October/November 2009. To date no evidence beyond the footings has been found to inform the reconstruction the German Kiosk. The central element of this formal garden remains the unfinished story still to be told.

As the project nears completion (and my; don't people work fast in time lapse sequences!) can you tell ne what will happen to all this valuable information- it's such a great resource for students and professionals in this area- and I reckon would be the basis for a couple of interesting presentations for any future interpretation/history/environment conference. Congratulations to all.

Many thanks for your feedback Angela.  We do plan to keep a legacy on the REB Web Site for this project so the information, stories, time-lapse, photographs and videos can be accessed in the future as it is indeed a valuable resource.

Hello, I just purchased a historical residence in the historical village of Old Economy in Ambridge PA. We are going to recreate a miniture version of a german style garden. Can't wait to see if finished. If you have any photos of other German Style gardens, please send them to my website I included.

I travel by disabled person's mobility scooter and come from Canning St across the Gardens to go to St Vincent's.I do like the new West garden where Ihave always crossed to go to St V's. BUT to my dismay I nearly crashed down a dangerous(to wheel-chairs and disabled people)step off the path leading into the new garden. For safety, this should be altered to a flat surface as it is right at the end of the path and unexpected. It is on the north side directly at the end of a new pathway and is part of the circular coping around the garden. I was forced to go back to find a safe way across the new section. Normally I go through the Gardens without a probem but now I have to find an alternative route.Fortunately I have my wits about me but some may not!
