Lightning is a giant electric spark in the sky.

It happens when the electric forces turn air into a plasma.

Different shapes of lightning are caused by wind, the way you see the lightning, or just tiny random variations in the air.

Even stranger forms of lightning include St Elmo's fire and ball lightning.
