Merlin Crossingham: Hello and welcome to the Wallace and Gromit's World of Invention exhibition here at Scienceworks in Melbourne. I'm Merlin Crossingham and I'm the creative director of Wallace and Gromit. I look after Wallace and Gromit on behalf of Nick Park and it's my great pleasure to welcome you to this exhibition.

Wallace and Gromit's World of Invention focuses in on talking a small idea and making something great out of it. And that's really at the heart of what Wallace and Gromit always do in their day-to-day life. So Wallace would take something very simple like getting out of bed for example and making make it really, really complicated amazing event. And this is what we want to celebrate in this Scienceworks exhibition. We want to take very simple ideas like a vacuum cleaner and we want to look at how that idea evolves. And we want you to find your ideas and to think about something that you thought maybe could be better and explore your great ideas.

In the exhibition there's loads to get involved with. You can get your hands dirty with modelling clay; we want you to dig deep and come up with some great ideas, share them at the ideas stations and have a look around, find out about other people's ideas, but most of all, have a think about you own ideas.

We're also very pleased to have some of Wallace and Gromit's actual sets at the exhibition, so you can get up close and personal with Wallace and Gromit and see how they're actually made as well.

I hope that this exhibition will make you think about some of the ideas that you have and taking inspiration from the way Wallace and Gromit do things is to take those little ideas and make something great out of it.
