Guiding Lights

Years 5-8, Planetarium show

The splendour of the night sky has been put to use throughout history in the practice of celestial navigation, with the Earth's surface having been charted using the lines of latitude and longitude. For sailors exploring the unknown seas, their lives depended on the accuracy of their navigators.

In this 40 minute Planetarium show students will discover some of the challenges that the highly skilled English navigator Lieutenant James Cook and the Polynesian navigator Tupaia overcame while exploring the South Seas.

All Planetarium shows conclude with a staff guided ‘What’s in the sky tonight’ presentation.
