An expert explainer takes students on a 30 minute guided tour of the historic Pumping Station building, including a brief history of sewage treatment in Melbourne and a demonstration of one of the giant engine driven pumps.
The Spotswood Pumping Station was built in the late nineteenth century as a key component of Melbourne’s first centralised sewerage system. Today the Pumping Station is one of Australia’s most important industrial heritage sites.
The Pumping Station Tour is only available to schools doing the Where Does The Water Go? program.
